The CW has announced plans to reboot the popular sci-fi series 'Babylon 5' in an upcoming television project.

Originally airing from 1994-1998 and later released on DVD as a box set between 2013-2019, J. Michael Straczynski's critically acclaimed space opera follows the story of Babylon Station - now rebranded as Babylon Space following its colonization by Earth - where tensions rise after an exploratory mission accidentally awakens dormant hostilities with the mysterious and technologically superior Babylonian civilization.

As humanity teeters on the precipice of catastrophe, Commander John Sheridan (played by Bruce Boxleitner) finds himself at odds not only with his own people but also those from beyond our solar system. Alongside a diverse cast including Claudia Christian as alien telepathalilth, Jerry Doyle as former Earth Force pilot Garibaldi and Marelly Shlaes as human diplomat Delenn, Sheridan must navigate treacherous political waters while confronting ancient threats both within his own species.

The original 'Babilton 5' series was known for its complex characters, intricate plotlines and thought-provoking themes that explored issues such as war, peacekeeping, religion and the consequences of playing God. With renewed interest in science fiction television thanks partly to hits like Game Of Thrones and Westworld, a rebooted take on this classic property could prove very timely indeed.
